So in essence, Mauser, took all leftover stock,to comply with directives,and put these few thousand guns together? It does make economical sense. What a convoluted world,this Luger stuff!
Just as an aside,the vet who brought it back(since passed on),was at Normandy,Falaise,Metz,helped relieve Bastogne, and went on to clear the Siegfried Line. So this gun, could have been picked up from literally any unit from France to Germany.
Thought a little provenance was in order.
