Hello!

I am trying to pin down when 2 Sauer 38H pistols were manufactured.

One pistol is a "3rd variation" with decocking lever and slide safety - with serial number 3753xx.

The other pistol is a "4th variation" with the the decocking lever but no side safety - with serial number 4796xx.

Both have the standard markings per variation, the E/37, and are in very nice shape.

The Sauer 38H is a remarkable pistol, and I am looking forward to round out the rest of their histories.

Thanks,

Tony

Hello Jim,

Can you handle two more at the same time? 416965 Var 2, E/37; and 504218 Var 3, E/F. Where can I get a copy of your Sauer reference book?

Thanks!

416965 as made in late December, 1943............504218 was made in March or early April, 1945...... I have a huge amount of these E/F Sauers noted in my database, so I believe a lot of them were found together by the U.S. Army and were basically souvenirs.... Volume I of my reference books has been sold out for years. I would suggest you look around at gunshows or spend your money at Amazon Books.....

Jim,

Thank you for your assistance. The E/F is in really excellent condition. Quite possibly never issued. Updated my records.

Thanks Jim!

I, too, was wondering about your books. I'll add the first volume to my search list for Amazon.

Most appreciatively,

Tony

They both have military acceptance. The 346 one has early features with the SS marked steel mag base and safety. The 426 one has the one line legend, zinc trigger, zinc SS marked mag base and safety. Both have e/N and E/37 acceptance.

I have serial number 412182 with Eagle N proof marks and reproduction grips. The cocking lever will not cock the hammer, but it does work as a decocker. The last time I fired the 38h (3years ago) I started having light primer strikes every 3rd round or so. I am researching the problem as 2 local gunsmiths were unable to help and I now have more time to address the issue. I have attached images to help. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Your cocking /decocking spring is gone. I had the same issue with mine, serial 450062. You can get a spare one and change it yourself, it's no big deal.

Hello, I am new here, first post. I just purchased S/N 349763. It has the Eagle stamp and the #37 below. Purchased it in St Louis, Mo from a Military Collectibles Store. Had been looking for some time. Very pleased. Not perfect. But very pleased!
