HI; Guy at the Mt. Vernon, WA show bought an Artillery luger with the above markings. Kind of odd that the markings are down starting just at the botton of the ball end of the front grip strap like there was a previous unit marking above this one professionally removed so you cann't tell. It's a DWM, date ground, marked "not british make", proofed by safty with a pair of downward crossed swords with B (9 O'clock0 4 (6 O'clock) and B (3 O'clock) in the spaces, Lug proffessionally removed so it is difficult to see that there ever was one there. We are going to see if the date can be determined without damaging it. Any ideas? Doug

Hi Douglas,
It's a British capture from, Imperial Army unit: Reserve Machine Gun Abteilung company #11 weapon # 42. I believe this is a training unit. I don't know what the British proofs are. Maybe someone else knows something about them. It seems odd that the date and lug have been removed.

Depends, if it was a WW1 britsh capture, then sold on the market, it made it here, and some USA guy was afraid of the lug making it a controlled item, he had it removed. I seem to recall seeing and hearing about a lot more lug removed lugers 30 years ago, then now, so wonder how many have been put back on...

HI; Years ago some states required the lug to be removed I seem to remember. Jeff likes to collect data on these. Lost his Email address again. There is a guy out there that restores these I seem to remember as well. Any suggestions? Doug

By rights, if you spend the dollars on "restoring" it, I bet you can just get your money back, if it was me, I'd either shoot it, sell it here on the forum as a shooter, or mail it to me.

Since its collector value is already shot, just trade out the frame for one with a stock lug. Tom Heller can probably help you out at just a fraction of what a "grafted" lug would cost you.

HI; I've got a couple of MG unit Lugers. Standard 4"ers. I was wondering if the artillery model is rare for for these kinds of units. If it is rare it may be worth restoring. If not, heck with it. I have a pile of parts. An extra frame that has similar finish. Odds and ends. Doug

Of 888 reported unit marked Imperial Lugers 102 are LP08's. Of these 102, 76 were issued to infantry regiments, 11 to infantry regiment machine gun companies, 11 to infantry regiment minenwerfer companies, 8 to artillery regiments and 6 to various other units.
A machine gun marked LP08 is a rare Luger.

What is the information on your other unit marked P08s for my data base.

HI; I have one 4"er here in front of me "F.M.G.A.8.98" 1911 Eurfurt 1098 no alpha. The other one I'll have to look for in the vast "Kerley Collection" aka garage. Have you merged your list with Jeff's? How many of the 4"ers are marked to MG units? Do you know what the poof is on the thread leader luger above? Doug
