Does it mean anything about me, possibly spending too much time studying Type 14 pistols, that when I was asked recently how old I would be on my next birthday, I responded 98.7 ?

It does, because you are old - we'd have to ADD 25 yrs to 89.7, so you are 113 and 7 months years old :)

Well, hopefully my writing skills are better than my math skills! How about 81.7 ? :) On the upside, I now feel about 32 years younger!

The Japanese do not say their age relative to an Imperial era, they give their numeric age as the number of years followed by sai.
76 years old: 76sai
I'm 76 years old: Watashi wa 76-saidesu

Showa 89 is not possible, Showa ended at 64 in 1989.

My post was meant to be humorous. And was unintentionally more humorous by my bad math.
