Dave, I have seen several and all appeared to have been made from loaders. The theory was that they were modified for police use after the war. This makes alot of sense as the police were armed with MP18s and these would need to be unloaded when the cops came in from walking their beat.
I doubt that Fritz had to use the same caution when unloading his TM08 at the front.
