Hi Markus,

Based on the tables on page 207 in the Swiss luger book by V. Bobba; your pistol with serial number # 70814 was made in 1943...

It is possible your gun has a mistaken stamping...maybe it was made in April of 1943...???

p.s. You have have time to take more photos of your luger, we would love to see them...!

Hi Markus,

Thanks for the additional photos and congratulations on your luger purchase.

I notice that your toggle "knobs" have unusual striations (i.e. grooves) that I have not seen on M1929 Bern lugers, before. Possibly yours was modified by a previous owner/gunsmith to improve the friction when grabbing the knobs with ones hand/fingers...

Your luger is also stamped with W+F prior to the serial number. My luger (serial # 56777) has the +/M in a cartoush prior to its serial number. Inspector Muhlemann may have retired by the time your pistol and others was being made. In V. Bobba's book on Swiss lugers on page 154, that M1929 luger serial # 67074 has the same W+F stamping as yours.

Hi Markus,

Here are the photos...

My M1929 Bern has the red canvesite plastic grips and magazine bottom. I also have a brown and black variety, as well.

Hi Markus,

I think the red grips are the most difficlut to find; brown and black are easier to locate here in the USA.

You have a very nice web page with interesting weapons.

My Swiss interests are primarily Swiss lugers and M1878, M1882, and M1929 Swiss revolvers.

You might also want to visit the following Swiss guns web site. They are also friendly there and have many members that live in CH and elsewhere in Europe :
