Here are some better pictures of Test Eagle #6761 (ref: http://www.gunboards.com/luger/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1054 ). It now has proper (though mismatched) breechblock and takedown lever. I cleaned up the left frame ear a bit, the safety area is now a bit brighter and obviously unblued and it now appears to me that what finish is left on this gun is original.
The markings in the top view do not show up well in the photograph, I decided against whitening them as being out of character with the condition of the gun.
I don't know if it is just that I am getting used to this gun, or pride of ownership, or simple rationalization, but it does seem to be in better shape than it first appeared to be, walking around the gun show.
