Hey guys, stopped by my FFL and he got this Mauser on consignment, price is $400, bore is OK got little surface rust, strong rifling. Is it WWI gun? Should I get it?

The price is decent, and it looks nicer than you describe.
I have only had a couple of 1934's, they just don't stay with me.

When I said little surface rust it was about the inside of the barrel, sorry to confusion

Priced about right IMO. Not a screaming deal or ripoff.

If I am seeing the serial number right it's 193928. Which would put it post WW-1 production. Doesn't look like any police markings on the front grip strap so it's a commercial production. $400 is a good price, not a steal but a good price.

is it normal that there's no Mauser banner on the left side? I was just googling pictures and majority of 1914s I see got banner

I collect them but he is more knowledgeable about the little details of them than me. The answer to your question about the side plate Mauser marking is also in the article.

Given the condition and over 100 years old, the $400 is not too much. If you want one, it is a good representative piece.
