I am trying to understand the way the transition occurred. Let me set up some strawmen, please tell me where I am wrong (or right!)
- Within the serial range 69100 to 71000 some 500 pistols were taken by the military for examination/testing. These were given three c/x proofs. This is from Davis-Luger variations
- after this, something like 25,000 pistols were procured and serialized xxxx letter thru about 4500b. This occurred thru 1909.
- Chamber dated lugers followed.
- Commercial production of the P.08 continued thru WW1.
I own two 9mm P.08's with serials in the 60xxx range. These were manufactured just prior to the first samples being procured by the military.
Comments?
