As I understand it, the 6 Ulan was a Mountain Machine Gun Company made up of Germans, who supported the Austrians in the mountainous regions. In essence they were mountain special forces. That is what is so unique and rare about this item.
This information is based from a conversation I had with a collector of WW1 Ulan memorabilia. He wants this gun bad. I am glad you like it.
