I found the following unit marked P08's recently.

1908 Military first issue, sn 1597 nonrelieved sear and no holdopen.
B.8.R.M.G.81. The numerals were all 2/3 the size of the letters. All letters block.

1916 DWM sn 3715 l. Grip strap 139.R.6.C. numerals and letters equal size. Very small, they were no larger than the weapon number within most unit marks.

Hello Geo,

the first unit mark means:

Bayerische 8. Reserve- Maschinengewehr-Kompanie, Waffe Nr.8

The second mark makes problems. Please look again, whether the C could be a small digit (2.1 mm in hight), a 6 for example.

Heinrich, when I saw the "C" I reached for a glass to look more closely. It is a "C" to the best of my knowledge.

Here is my read of the unit markings (Heinrich, If I am in error please point out my mistakes):
* 1908 DWM, s/n 1597 : B.8.R.M.G.81. - Bayerisches, 8 Infanterie-Regiment, Maschinengewehr-Kompagnie, Waffe Nr.81.

*1916 DWM, sn 3715 l : 139.R.6.C. - 139th Infanterie-Regiment, 6th Kompagnie.

While not exactly according to rules the “C” signifies “Compagnie” which is an older usage of the word “Kompagnie” It is not a common usage but I have documented it on a 1914 DWM, a 1917 DWM and, a bayonet all shown below.

Here are some pics of the 1916 DWM marked 139.R.6.c. I have put it on Gunbroker.com to sell and figured I better post the pictures while I still own it.
