I would be pleased to read any comments on this holster that came with a 1916 Luger I bought recently. It appears to be a commercial as there is no makers name or date. Inside the flap is stamped with W.I or W.1. The strap loops look like they are from the same leather as the holster and certainly weren't added recently. It came with a police mag. in it's pouch.
Has any member seen anything similar.

Thanks Roy

Thank you Ed for your speedy reply, I see what you mean on that previous thread however my holster is different in the fact it has these two metal loops attached to the back of the holster in the area of the belt loops. They look like they were added to accomodate a shoulder strap perhaps.

I thank you for your time in this matter.
Roy

Roy, I just had the pleasure to work on another holster like this one except for the strap D-rings. It was a 1916 with the cleaning rod and strap (1934) added to an Imperial holster.

I have seen the strap configuration on U-boat rigs. Not saying this is one but have seen authentic Navy rigs made this way.

Like Ron says it could be for Mounted use I guess. The proof here is in period photo's. It only exists in the context of has it been seen in a photo?

I can tell you the added leather tabs are period to the holster. The stitching is good and correct. Done the way it should have been by a German Sattler of the era. Very nice! Jerry Burney

Garfield, Tom Armstrong, noted Imperial Navy collector has several in his collection. I have seen them first hand but honestly I do not remember if they were specially marked.I see so many holsters on a weekly basis I can't remember them all! You could contact Tom and ask him. I am positive he could give you chapter and verse on the type. Sorry I can't be of more help than that. Jerry Burney

Jerry do you think you could pass on the photo of this holster of mine to this guy Tom and see if he thinks it is 'Imperial Navy' or if you could e-mail me his e-mail address I'll do it.

Thanks Roy
