If one were to consider one of these as the next purchase, would you buy a new one or some particular vintage? If I wanted a very good example, what should I pay? Is this a "collectable" is it a good investment?
I would stay away from a P1 if I was going to do much shooting with it, I have seen to many alloy frames crack, look for a nice shooter grade pre 1945 P-38.
John, Check this out for a good P.38 shooter. These were captured by the Russians and recently imported into the US . And a trustworthy dealer. http://www.fgsinc.8m.com/photo3.html
The P1 is not a collectable, but then, some people collect airline barfbags, nor a good investment, IMHO. As advised, go for one of the matched imports.
