I have a DWM P-08 that appears to be a Weimar Police pistol. The front strap has a unit marking of "L.D. 14". Serial number of the pistol is 2776U Can someone help me with the identification of which police department this is from? Thanks in advance.

L.D. 14 should be Landjagerei Dusseldorf (rural constabulary)

We would like further information, markings, year date on the top, pictures, scanned or digital?

Thanks,

Ed

Ed:

Sorry, but I am camera "disabled" at the moment.

The toggle is marked DWM, with no date. There is an Eagle N on the left side of the toggle link. Right side of the receiver is Eagle (Weimar?), Eagle over WaA66, Eagle over H. Right side of barrel is a "bug?". Under the barrel is serial number 2776, a U or M?, then 882. Front of the receiver, under the barrel is serial number 2776 and underneath a U. There is a 76 under the takedown latch, and again under the sideplate. Inside of the grips is unmarked as far as I can see.

The magazine (mismatch) has a serial number of 8898 (or 8688 depending on which end is up?), what appears to be either a script Y or N, and an Eagle 63 or 83.

Hope this helps.

It has a sear safety, but I don't think it has a magazine safety, as the trigger will definitely work with the magazine removed.

You have a 29 DWM manufactured in late 1929 or early 1930. As Ed said, it was manufactured for the Prussian State Landjagerei( L.D. 14 should be Landjagerei Dusseldorf (rural constabulary). For more information on 29 DWM's marked to the police click on the post below.

Jan:

Thanks for the additional information. My pistol matches up with the information given in the post with a few minor exceptions.

There appears to be a magazine safety on mine, based on the photo in the post, although I'm not sure it is functional. If I cock the pistol, remove the magazine, then pull the trigger, the striker sounds as if it is activated. Is there some sort of striker block that would prevent the pistol from firing?

The markings on my psitol differ a bit from the example shown on your post as there are 3 marks on the right side of the receiver, although one is WaA66. Also the Eagle N is on the toggle link rather than on the receiver.

By the way, what is the small vertical weld mark on the receiver, about a half inch to the rear of the side plate?

Lastly, is the mark I call a "bug" on the right side of the barrel, about a half inch forward of the receiver. Any thoughts on this?

My Luger knowledge is non-existent, so this Forum has been very informative. Thanks again for your help.

Harvey, it was found that the magazine safety was not liked or needed and therefor were pulled on practically all of them. So, you will either find them;

1. gone and the hole filled in
2. gone and the hole not filled in
3. still there and the end by the trigger is clipped off

I think the magazine safety is #3, as it appears (externally)to still be there. I'll have to take it down to see if the end has been clipped off.

Thanks again for the information.

Harvey,
* The "bug" on the right side of the barrel is likely to be the barrel"s Proof mark. Typically this is a smaller sized version of the right most stamp in the series of three stamps on the right side of the receiver.

Thanks for the response on the "bug". I think the mark is a light strike on my Pistol, as it is difficult to make it out. I noticed a mark in pretty much the same place on one of the photos in the post that Jan directed me to.

I removed the grip and the magazine safety appears to be identical to the one shown in the picture you posted.
