FN manufacture. It has a Belgian military acceptance marking on the cam (1935-1939) but the rest was shaved: all markings removed, and renumbered later.

Regarding the shaving / renumbering, what entity would be likely to do that?

An arsenal of some type? Is it possible to make an educated guess?

Not really. I see this done all the time, collectors remove the serial number. In your case it was renumbered postwar...
