I have a P38 soft shell holster with the maker marks dKK and under this 44 between the belt straps. I have done some research and know the maker is Friedrich Offermann & Sohne, Lederwarenfabrik, Bensberg. Then there is a waffenampt 195 under the P38 stamp. This is the inspectors mark for Karl Barth, Militareffekten Fabrik, Waldbrohl, Germany. Then there is a Ca just above the mag pouch under the flap. this mark is for Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke, Schwerte, Ruhr.
My question is why are there 3 differnt markings on the holster? The dKK mark is for a maker in Bernsberg. The Waffenampt 195 is a inspector's mark in Waldbrohl Germany. Then there is a small "Ca" over the mag pouch for a nickel factory in the Ruhr? I could be wrong about the Ca marking being for the nickel factory. But the waffenampt and maker code I'am pretty sure of. Would the germans actually have made the holster in one part of germany then shipped it to a differnt part for inspection in 1944? Was the german army that strict even in 44 as far as inspecting the equipment went?

I will get some pics of the markings tomorrow. Hopefully the sun will be out and the canera can take some good pics without having to use the flash. The dKK between the straps is a little faint. And thanks for the link to the P38 forum. The holster came with a ac43 marked P38 with 2 mags that both have the 359 waffenampt on thier spline.

I have never seen such marking on a P38 holster, however I am not no expert on Nazi WW11 marking. Please know there are many serious & knowledgeable collectors on this board and I am confident someone will be able to assist you on the information you are looking for.

here is a reply I was given by the moderator on the P38 site Mark directed me to (I asked him for his permission to post his reply here

The waffenamt numbers were assigned to an inspector group in a district, not necessarily one factory. 195 is correct for dkk and for several other factories in that area.

The "ca" is not a makers marking. I don't know what it is but may possibly be some stamp that was placed on the leather before it was cut into parts for a holster or a marking that was placed on the leather piece before it was assembled into a complete holster. I have not seen that marking before so I can't be sure what it is.

To elaborate, as I understand it, the number was assigned to a head inspector for a district. In some cases that could be one factory but often included several factories. The individual inspectors under the head inspector used the same number but were all responsible to him.

Thanks, but I really wasn't worried about the holster being orignal. I was curious about the markings. I really like to find out where and why equipment is marked the way it is it is very interesting to me. I have a Browning hi power pistol and it's holster was made in Mainz the city where my relatives on my mother's side lived and some still live there today.
