Sadly, I bought a basket case upper, lower, and bolt, and the idea of letting it languish in the parts bin is too much to bear. Has a lovely bore.

I think that it cut both ways. A lot of Chinese Broomhandles needed parts but I suspect a lot were parted out. There were firms, some connected to importers or actual importers in some cases, that had pretty good C96 parts selections back in the 1990s and the early 2000s. These were pretty much all gone by around 2010. It’s all tough now for most any German military gun pre 1945.
