I see very good condition HSC sells for $800-$1300 army or police issued. Navy issued HSC sell for more though.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You are right, the Eagle L denotes Police issue.
For a great history of the HSc I enjoyed this video, it shows how to field strip, where the serial numbers are marked and explains a 1942 patent dispute by Walther that resulted in a design change of the HSc:

I and others urge caution, in general do not buy as-is items and note many items never get any bids because they are bad or have high initial prices.
Regarding the HSc, verify the slide doesn't slam shut when removing an empty magazine. I have a nice WW2 model with this issue and got help on the forum but I haven't looking into the problem yet, here is a link to one thread on the issue:

I have a war time HSc that when the slide is locked back and the magazine is removed, the slide will release forward. The slide releases without having to reinsert the mag. Any solutions? Tom

I have not been going to the range lately due to ammo costs. I shoot mostly my newer guns but I like to be able to run a few clips worth on the older guns. So, yes I want something that I can occasionally shoot.

I was able to get my E/L, three line HSC for $700. It’s a bit ratty, but I felt the price was fair enough.
