The discussion in the "other forums" thread got me a bit nostalgic. So I decided to read some old threads. With all the BW jazz of the last year or two (no offense Jason) I thought I'd toss this out to "the forum" as it exists today.

Without further ado....Simpsons has a Lithuanian listed at $6,800 Someone bought one from RIA for $6,500 recently and one sold on Legacy in Jan for 5k?

Who has these? Post them up. Are they even real?

Here's some questions. If these are just boosted commercials then....

Why are "reputable dealers" taking them into inventory and re-selling them?

Are the Hi-powers legit or did somebody boost them by adding the pillars?

Or...Are the Hi-powers legit and someone decided to create the "Lithuanian" contrat luger by adding the pillars?

Are the new buyers being fooled by "reputable dealers" re-selling these with no mention of the question of legitimacy?

Food for thought anyhow.

Because "reputable dealers" are not true specialists for most part, and they can make money.
Even those you know, trust, etc... At best, they will reimburse you.
Rule number one: as a collector, you need to know you sh*t better than anyone.
Rule number two: books cost less than guns
Rule number three: books may be incomplete or have errors

most of them are legit - I would suggest you refer to Antony Vanderlinden's books.

Good discussion, as most folks here have stated from time to time, we collectors are just stewards as we can't take these things with us. And with decades, the stories and finger-pointing of who bought a fake fade away and voila...a "once-known" ake enters the market again, perhaps by a less than knowledgeable and/or honest dealer. Because at the end of the day, how often are fakes destroyed or permanenelty marked/altered?
